Additional work should concentrate along three key avenues: (1) construction of models and generalization to other structures of interest; (2) assessment of performance in the segmentation of subjects with suspected abnormalities in the VOI, and evaluation of the need for new models based on training sets created from abnormal subjects; and (3) development of a differentiator for diagnostic purposes of disorders such as epilepsy, based on the analysis of eigenmodes of variation of the hippocampal formation and their influence on the shape of the structures of interest.
