To find and book a PET slot at the MNI Brain Imaging Centre: I. Determine what times/days are available by looking at the PET schedule. On an SGI computer at BIC, from a terminal connected to bottom enter the following command (nb: "bottom> " is the command-line prompt): bottom> petschedule A window with the following instructions will appear on the screen. ******************************************************************* 1. The PET schedule can be viewed using the following command: 2. Check the schedule to for available slots 3. To reserve a slot for the forthcoming week email me at (alain@bic.mni.mcgill.ca) with the following data: a. The name of the PI b. The name of the study c. The start time for the scan d. The estimated duration of the study. e. The ligand required and number of injections f. If arterial sampling will be required. g. The scanner (Scanditronix vs ECAT) Slots cannot be booked by telephone. When two or more PIs have requested the same slot, the decision will be based solely on whose request arrived first (except when the subject's medical condition must be taken into consideration). 4. Slots can be booked more than 2 weeks in advance only if the name of the specific subject or patient is provided. 5. Scheduling for the forthcoming week will be finalised by midday Friday. 6. The schedule will be updated by 10am each morning. If you wish to swap slots with another investigator, it is up to you to negotiate the swap. The swap will only be made when the investigator relinquishing his/her slot emails his/her approval. Vcal will be used to show the Pet Scanning Schedule next, keep in mind in is Read Only. ************************************************************************ Once you click on the "Yes Sir!" button (lower right corner of the window), a calendar (month view) will appear. If the calendar has a day shaded in light grey, the AM and PM slots are available. If a day is shaded in dark grey, at least one slot has been reserved (and perhaps both). You can check the schedule for a particular day by using the mouse to double click on the date of interest. Another window will appear with information about which slots have been reserved and by whom. In this window, a reserved slot is shaded pink (and has text in the pink area) and a free slot is shaded light grey. You can browse the other days or months by clicking on the right- and left-pointing 'arrows' in the upper portion of the window (this works on the day view and the month view). Left takes you back in time; right takes you forward. II. Once you know which days are available, e-mail this info. to Shelley (mcsh@musica.mcgill.ca) and ask her to confirm a date with the subject. She (or someone else) must then e-mail Alain Dagher (alain@bic.mni.mcgill.ca) to request the slot, in accordance with the rules listed above. III. After Alain Dagher has confirmed the reservation, you should contact one of the PET technicians: Richard Fukasawa (rickf@bic.mni.mcgill.ca) or Gary Sauchuk (garys@bic.mni.mcgill.ca) to confirm the scan date, etc. In order for a protocol to be carried out in the PET unit, Alain Dagher and/or the PET technicians require a copy of the letter of approval from the MNI-H Research Ethics Committee for that study. In addition, the PET office requires a blank copy of the approved consent form for that study. On or before the day of the scan, the subject must give informed consent (this means having the subject read the consent form or have one of the investigators read the consent form to the subject and describe what the experiment will entail (getting positioned in the scanner, what the tests will be like, what the subject is required to do, etc.) and answer any questions they may have about the procedure. On the day of the scan, a "MNIH PET Unit Medical History" form must be completed for the subject and that form, along with a copy of the signed consent form (including signatures of the subject, physician, investigator and witness) must be submitted to the PET technician who will be doing the scan. For Labo Chertkow studies, the subject is paid at the time of the scan. Use the standard SMBD JGH Receipt of Payment form, list the expenses reimbursed to the subject (usually transport and subject fees), get any receipts and return them, along with the form to Shelley Solomon at the LDI. {For MNI investigators, the subject is given a request for payment form which is processed at the McGill University Cashier's Office (3rd floor of the James Administration Building?)} MRI appointments must now be booked by the investigator.
