Intensity non-uniformity in MR images is one of the main causes of error when using classification algorithms to automatically identify different tissue types since the intensity variations blur the true intensity distributaions of individual tissue classes. This type of artefact was reduced by applying a 3D non-uniformity reduction procedure based on the deconvolution of the non-uniformity blurring kernel from the intensity histogram of the image [18].
