The TN-7200 Comes to the Rescue

Although the TN-7200 MCA did not have an appropriate computer interface, it did have one very useful output: an SCA output. This output provides a pulse for every valid energy event detected by the MCA, and therefore by connecting it to an external counter, the valid events can be counted. Since an external counter with RS-232 interface was already being used, this was a perfect solution.

The window on the MCA can be adjusted using the LLD and ULD front panel controls. When adjusting the controls, remember that whatever is shown on the screen of the MCA is the spectrum that will be counted by the external counter. The LLD and ULD controls are the only controls that affect the SCA output of the MCA.

Therefore, should the MCA be accidentally turned off, the only action needed is to turn it back on. However, the setting of the energy window should be frequently verified, and for this a simple understanding of how to use the TN-7200 is required.
