Neurobiology of the Cerebral Cortex and its Thickness
Brodmann mapped the cerebral cortex of a single human brain into regions of distinctive cytoarchitectonic structure;
the neocortex consists of six laminae;
the thickness of the neocortex is between 2 and 4 mm in histological studies;
thickness of the individual laminae varies depending upon the region of the cortex;
significant variability in sizes and locations of cytoarchitectural areas between individual brains
