Presented here is a comprehensive atlas of the human brain in
stereotaxic spacethat uses a standardized nomenclature and clearly defines
the boundaries of 48 structures, 44 of which are identified bilaterally.
For this purpose, an MRI volume of a normal adult male brain was registered
to Talairach coordinate system and manually segmented into 27 cortical and
21 subcortical structures (including grey, white and csf) following a
specific brain hierarchical scheme. The result of this exercise is a three
dimensional anatomical atlas of 1mm resolutionin coronal, horizontal and
sagittal plane.
