We look forward to welcoming friends and family to Olympia to share our special day. We are excited to see everyone there in August. We are especially happy that Nick has done John the honour of being his best man, while Destiny and Heidi have done Karri the honour of being her bridesmaids.
John and Karri first met back in the Autumn of 2002 through mutual friends, Jack and Erin Sugarman, at Georgetown Community Church. They continued to meet up occasionally for the rest of 2002 and until June of 2003.
In May 2003, John visited Costa Rica for 10 days and when he got back, he and Karri met up one evening to talk about his trip and to have Sushi together. They discovered they both had a love of Sushi in common as well as so many other things, it took both of them aback. Due to them both travelling, it was another couple of weeks before they were able to meet up again, but they emailed and talked throughout this time, realising more and more that there was indeed something quite special happening.
When they were both finally back in the same place, they seemed to be spending a great deal of time together. It was at this point that people who knew them both started to suspect that they might be becoming more than just friends. They spent time together on a painting project at the Boys and Girls Club in Georgetown, went to a concert together, Karri took John to the Smithsonian Modern Art Museum for Art Night, and spent long hours talking into the night. John then went to San Francisco for work and while there he and Karri talked and emailed almost continuously, even causing John's roommate, Donald Martin, to disappear when they were talking on the phone.
It was not long after John's return from San Francisco that they both knew that they had something really incredible
From then on, it has been a wonderful experience getting to know each other better and realising that they indeed wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. John visited Karri's family for Thanksgiving and while there asked Karri's father's permission to ask Karri to marry him. Luckily for John, he said yes. Karri then visited England, to meet the rest of John's family, having earlier met his parents when they came to visit DC. While there, John proposed to Karri on December 6th 2003 on top of Primrose Hill in London, his favourite place in the city. Karri accepted and they had a celebration that night with his family.
Unfortunately at the end of January 2004, John's visa in the United States expired and so John and Karri had to become separated by distance. John visited DC and Karri came to London. However, exciting times were ahead, and John was offered a job in Taipei, Taiwan. Both he and Karri relished the opportunity, and John has recently started his new job there. He and Karri will go to live there after the wedding and begin both the very exciting adventures of Married Life and living in Asia.
