Cutting fluid for mixing blood mimics : For those who care (enough to find this), the metal machining fluid “Syn Cut HD” by Acra tech (Toronto/Mississauga, ON) is now sold under the different product name “Magcool 3400” 1. It seems Magnus bought Acra tech a while back and have now “repositioned” their product line 2. The beloved Syn Cut HD is an important component in the popular blood mimic/working fluid for vascular flow phantoms first introduced by Frayne et al. (1993) and modified slightly by Rickey et al. (1995):
- ~60% (by volume) Magcool 3400 cutting fluid (formerly Acra Tech Syn-Cut HD, Mississauga, ON, Canada)
- ~40% distilled water
- ~1% nylon particles (ELF Atochem Orgasol 3501 EXD) or enough to simulated a hematocrit of 0.11.
Mix, and serve with love.
