Transcranial Magnetic Stimulator
The 3-Dimensional Mapping of the Magnetic Field
By:  Lisa Lim & Matthew Yee

During June 1999 and July 1999, a continuation in the previous theoretical and experimental investigation was completed.  The same techniques were applied to study the Figure 8 TMS coil, the Cone TMS coil, and the simple Circular TMS coil.  The results of these will be updated on this page as they become available.

A block diagram of the Cadwell Stimulator Current Supply and a graph of the magnitude of the magnetic field vs. % of the power output can be found here.

Below is some data collected in November 1999, on behalf of Yuteng Chen  on a TMS coil he designed.  He currently taking steps to refine his design with the goals of producing better focality and heat dissipation through the use of  'Litz wire' conducting material.

The images below depict x-ray photographs of 2 of Mr. Chen's coils.  Regrettably, the double sandwich coil was overheated and ruined before any coherent data could be obtained.   The term 'sandwich' is applied due to the fact that each respective coil is made up of 2 to 3 thin coils.  The purpose of which is to attempt to obtain increased focality of the magnetic field.
