Amanda stands for “The Advanced Maryland Automatic Network Disk Archiver”

It is a very powerful backup system, formerly only used with tapes and tape drives (see http://www.amanda.org/). Now that disk space on external drives is very cheap, you can affordably use an external USB drive for backup and recovery. All you have to do is:

  1. Get amanda
  2. Fake a tapechanger
  3. Ajust your amanda.conf
  4. Create a disklist
  5. Edit your crontab
