Sonia Lupien, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Psychiatry, McGill -
Sonia J. Lupien is interested in the impact of stress across the lifespan and has conducted studies in children and young adults. Her studies have shown that children are also susceptible to the effects of stress and that some children may start producing high amounts of stress hormones at as early as 6 years of age. Interestingly, her studies in young adults were the first to show that, in some instances, elevations of stress hormones can actually be beneficial, and that when it comes to stress, it’s all a matter of balance; too little can be just as detrimental as too much. Dr. Lupien is now working on finding early ways to detect and prevent stress-related disorders in people of all ages.
