Narly Golestani, Ph.D.

Senior Fellow, University College London -

Functional brain imaging (using fMRI) of multilingualism, with a specialemphasis on specific language components such as phonology and grammar, but also on the interplay between non-linguistic functions and secondlanguage acquisition. In a second line of research, I use anatomical MRI(aMRI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to study brain structuralcorrelates of normative individual differences in aspects of languagelearning and perception. More recently, I have extended this line of workto study brain structural characteristics underlying expertise, and alsoexperience-related structural plasticity arising from expertise inthehuman adult brain. Here, I have and am working with phoneticians andwith simultaneous language interpreters.
