Andre Matos

Ph.D. Student -

I am a PhD student in Medical Sciences at Sao Paulo University, Ribeirao Preto, Brazil, and I am doing an exchange program at McGill University as visiting research student. I finished my undergraduate level in Information Technology in 1997. Because of my personal interest in imaging processing, I pursued a Masters Degree in Medical Science at Sao Paulo University from 2000 to 2002. During this period, I worked with artificial neural networks applied to automatic recognition of normal anatomical patterns for indexing and retrieving computed tomography imaging in a PACS environment. Since July 2003, I have been working in the Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Unit, studying magnetization transfer (MT) imaging technique in the normal human brain and in multiple sclerosis patients. The aim of my project is characterization and understanding of the normal distribution of MT values in healthy adult normal controls. This is therefore important for the use of appropriate normal-control comparison groups and for better comprehension of MS pattern of lesion distribution. Along with my interest in Computer Aided Diagnosis software, I am also interested in software development, desktop and/or web application, for archiving and managing medical data, using a variety of technologies such as Oracle, MySQL, HTML, XML, JavaScript, Java, JSP, Servlets, PHP, C/C++, Perl, and Shell Unix.
