Master’s Student -

I am a biomedical engineering student in Dr. Bruce Pikeís lab in the Brain Imaging Centre. My project focuses on quantitative MRI methods, specifically exploring the relationship between two methods, voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and magnetization transfer ratio (MTR). VBM is an analysis method for detecting subtle structural variations in the brain within a population. MTR when applied in population studies may reflect within-tissue-class brain changes. My investigation is performed within the context of an ongoing large-scale genetic study of the long-term consequences of prenatal exposure to maternal cigarette smoking on brain and behaviour, and cardiovascular and metabolic health during adolescence (The Saguenay Project).
