Barry Bedell, M.D. , Ph.D.

Assistant Professor - Small Animal Imaging Laboratory (SAIL)

Dr. Bedell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University. He is Director of the Small Animal Imaging Laboratory (SAIL) of the McConnell Brain Imaging Centre (BIC) at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI). Dr. Bedell has a B.S. in Chemistry from Lehigh University, Ph.D. in Medical Physics from University of Texas/M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and M.D.,C.M. from McGill University. Dr. Bedell’s post-graduate training includes post-doctoral research fellowships at the Univerisity of Texas Medical School at Houston (Dr. P.A. Narayana, MRI Physics) and MNI (Dr. A.C. Evans, Molecular/Animal Imaging). He also completed his residency training in Anatomical Pathology at McGill with an emphasis in Neuropathology.Dr. Bedell’s research interest centers on bridging multiple disciplines, including imaging, pathology, chemistry, molecular biology, and informatics to create holistic pictures of animal models of CNS diseases. Through the creation of disease-specific integrated technology platforms (ITPs), he is able to rapidly evaluate the efficacy of novel experimental therapeutic agents for the treatment of diseases such as brain tumours, multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer’s disease.
